Victory in Christ Children’s Ministry
The mission of the Victory in Christ Children's Ministry is to share the love of Jesus with each child who attends our church.
We encourage each child to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We facilitate this by being examples of God’s love to them. We believe that by establishing consistent, caring and committed relationships, we show each child how valued they are by God and by us. We set high standards and encourage our children to grow to their potential.
1 Corinthians 2:11-12, 14 (NKJV)
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
According to these scriptures, unless an individual has the Spirit of God living in them, they cannot understand the Bible, which is God's revealed Word to mankind. An individual can appreciate the teachings, the stories and the history found in the pages of the Bible, but their understanding will be unfruitful and they will never really know and experience all that God has freely given them.
We believe that it is vital for a child to be born again (receive eternal life) and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit so that they can experience the things freely given by God.
Many times we assume that our children really understand the gospel and are truly born again. Nothing is more frustrating for a child than to be made subject to church sermons and get very little from them (because they need the Holy Spirit to understand spiritual things).
We share our personal message, “God’s Wonderful Gift: How to be Forgiven, Made Righteous and Receive Eternal Life” with each child that attends our church. Then we follow up with teachings that elaborate on the three great spiritual truths of forgiveness, righteousness and eternal life. With this foundation, a child can experience rapid spiritual growth. They quickly begin to experience God’s love for them and the joy of the answered prayer.
John 16:23-24 (NKJV)
23 And in that day you shall ask Me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, Whatever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
24 Before now you have asked nothing in My name; ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
We teach our children how to pray for themselves and for others. We have witnessed remarkable answers to prayer, which confirms the truth of the Word of God to our children, and the reality of their new life in Christ.
Each week our lesson is 15 minutes long. After the lesson, we allow our children to have fun playing games together. We have developed a teaching technique we call the spiritual vitamin.
Luke 4:4 (NKJV)
And Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written that "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God."
We teach our children that just as they need food to sustain them physically, they also need spiritual food to live joyful, productive and fulfilled lives. You will notice your child coming home with business size cards we call spiritual vitamins. On one side of the card a scripture verse is presented. The teaching for that particular class will be based on this scripture. Central to the new covenant is the truth that God has written His laws upon our hearts.
Hebrews 10:16 (AMP)
This is the agreement (testament, covenant) that I will set up and conclude with them after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding).
The challenge for us as believers is to renew our minds to the reality of what God has already done in our spirits (when we were born again through our faith in Jesus Christ).
Romans 12:2 (Weymouth)
And do not follow the customs of the present age, but be transformed by the entire renewal of your minds, so that you may learn by experience what God's will is-that will which is good and beautiful and perfect.
God wants us to renew our minds so that we can experience His beautiful way of living. We do this by making a confession of His Word.
Philemon 1:6 (KJV)
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Our faith (trusting the Lord to do what He told us in His Word) grows as we make our confession of who we are in Christ. Therefore, on the reverse side of the card we have a confession in the first person based on the spiritual vitamin scripture. Your child will begin to experience the reality of their new life in Christ as they make a bold confession of the Word of God. Here is an example to illustrate:
John 1:12 (NKJV)
But as many as received Him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
During the lesson, we explain what is meant by receiving Jesus and believing in His name. We ask our children questions to get them involved and to gauge their level of understanding. Then we have them make a confession out loud based on the spiritual vitamin scripture.
"I believe in the name of Jesus. He saved from my sins and gave me the right to become God’s very own child. I have been born of God! I am now a child of God!"
We encourage our children to say the confession each day during the coming week. To help facilitate your child’s spiritual growth, we ask that you read a Bible passage to them each day. You can start by reading through the New Testament. The Word of God is alive and full of power. Just reading 5 to 10 minutes a day to your child will have an enormous impact on their life. Hearing the Word of God every day will help your child become sensitive to the things of God and create in them a willingness to be led by the Holy Spirit. As this happens more and more, your child will actually live out the Word of God (be a doer of the Word - James 1:22).
